Gaby (Gabrielle)
Being the eldest child i have always left Gaby with responsibilities.
I remember when she was 4-5 years old we were living in a small country town of about 6 thousand people. No traffic lights and only a few round-abouts.
We owned a local business and at 330pm most days i would have to go up town and do the banking. Which only took about 10mins round trip.
Jack was about 2 and seemed to always be asleep in his cot. ( Jack was a shocker to get to sleep so i never wanted to wake him) Gaby would be watching Play School on TV and wouldn't want to come anyway so i would say to her "I will be back in 10mins. If Jack wakes, just go sit in the cot with him and play until i return" My dad was horrified when he knew i was doing this, and now i look back and it was really stupid as anything could've happened to me, the kids. I could've crashed the car, who knows.
BUT i didn't,
and i would always return home and Gaby would be still be watching TV and Jack sound asleep.
Our next door neighbour, Ro was always home and she had kids the same age. She knew i was not home and would keep an eye on the place.
What i am saying is, Gaby has always been very responsible and reliable and has continued to be so.
She mothers me!
Gaby will tell the boys "Don't speak to your mother like that" or she corrects them when they speak. I will tell the boys "ask your sister, she will know" when they ask me to help with their maths homework.
Whatever Gaby does she does it with a strong will and strives to achieve the best possible results. Weather it be School, Ballet and now work.
Not sure how she keeps up with it all, as she dances 4 days a week after school, along with keeping up to date with Grade 10 assignments, extended maths homework, school drama practice, and then her two shifts on the days she doesn't dance. We have never had to push Gaby to go to dancing or do her school work. She really loves what she is doing right now. Sunday is her day off which consists of a sleep in till around lunch time almost and then lazing around for the rest of the day or maybe catching up with friends at Max Brenners.
She will hate that i put this in but we are so extremely proud of her and a mother is allowed to boast. (right?) Her school reports are as good as they can be with VHA (very highly achievement)
Gaby could be a lawyer, doctor, Pharmacists, anything really, but at this moment she wants to be a ballet dancer. She throws in, when talking about this, that she wants to teach dance at a high school or own a dance studio with a ballet shop, maybe even dance overseas.
She tells me the other day that she will be 16 next year and able to get her L plates. GEE where did the time go. I remember bringing her home from hospital and didn't know what to do with her when i walked in the front door. My first day at home with her i sat and watched all the news about Lady Diane's car crash which than continued for the rest of the week. Never forget it...
Whatever her dreams small or big are i am sure she will succeed and her life will be full of honesty and love.
Jason and i are so very proud of the young lady Gaby is becoming and with the great friends that she has around her, her teenage years look like they will be A OK.
I love you so very much Gab xxx
Love Mum.

Her crazy obsession with One Direction - I heard her say today that there is 488 sleeps till the concert in Brisbane next year.

Another beautiful post Pen, all your post on your little tribe have been just lovely. You express yourself in the written word so beautifully. Sounds like you have one grounded young lady on your hands, lucky you. Have fun counting down the sleeps to One Direction! lol Hope you had a lovely Mothers Day. x Jode
ReplyDeletePenny, you and Jason should feel very proud of yourselves. You seem to have a very well adjusted family. You both have done such a good job. And obviously you are one step ahead of all the tricks, as you have been there. Won't be able to pull the wool over your eyes.....Sue Mac.
