Sick Daisy

Early last week we took our dog daisy to the vet for her checkup.
We got the all clear and came home.
The following few days she wouldn't  jump up on to our bed and she spent most of the day in her dog bed. On the Thursday she had a go at Jason when he tried to touch her tummy. We knew than that she wasn't right as she never would do that.
On the Friday we took her to another vet who did x-rays, bloods and than decided to operate on the Saturday morning as Daisy hadnt passed the blue capsules that the vet had given her the day before and was in heaps of PAIN.
The vet found a very swollen small intestine that was so inflamed that nothing was able to pass through. She took a swab and sent it off to pathology. She mentioned that it could be a particular cancer which didn't have a good outcome or it could just be a bad bacterial infection.
As the vet closed at lunch time Saturday we had to take her to a 24hr Animal Emergency Hospital so they could keep up the pain relief for her.
We were all thinking the worse on Saturday when we dropped her off to the Animal Hospital but now i look back, she did just come out of surgery and wasn't looking very well.
We got to visit her on Sunday and we didn't expect to see her walk out to greet us.

She wasn't to happy to see us walk out and leave her though.

MONDAY morning we returned to pick her up at 8am and take her back to our Vet.
$1,200.00 for her weekend stay (at least they bathed her)
I wonder if it was candle lit...

At this stage the vet had not received any pathology results but was very pleased to see how well she recovered and was kind of positive that it wasn't cancer. She still hadn't used her bowels so Daisy had to stay another night at the vets.

TUESDAY the results came back by mid morning and it was  all clear - the pathologist had no reason for the swelling and couldn't give an answer on how or why it became inflamed and swollen.
We picked her up around 3pm. She still hadn't used her bowels since the operation but the vet was happy to see her come home. Daisy is on a strict bland diet and we will keep her wrapped up in cotton wool for a few weeks.
So $3,200.00 later she is back home.

Never thought i would be so worried about a DOG.

Happy to have you back Daisy :)

  1. Wow Pen, what an adventure for poor little Daisy!
That's one good battle scar and a decent bill to go with it.
We would spend the earth to see our babies get better and quickly!
Glad that Daisy is home and on the mend and deserves to be spoilt rotten.
